![]() It can be a challenge to find titles that include authentic voices that are reflective of all. We also see the benefit of our students seeing those who are different from themselves represented. We as librarians see the need to allow all of our students to see themselves in books. I had the opportunity to serve as a co-chair along with another amazing MAME member, Kerry Guiliano. These members represented a variety of library types and worked with a range of student demographics. Then seven members reviewed books geared at sixth through twelfth grade. There were seven members who reviewed books for preschool through fifth grade. This list was created by a committee of fourteen MAME members. Here ae six more things you might want to know: The Committee When possible the titles were linked to the author or publisher’s website. There is a short description of each book as well as a link to more information. It is divided by grade level and then in alphabetical order by title. ![]() This list includes books for all grade levels: PreK-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-8, and 9-12. The books included are all published in the last two years and written by #ownvoice authors. For those who do not know MI is the abbreviation for the state of Michigan. The MISelf in Books List is an annual list of diverse books that were selected by a committee of certified school librarians who are members of MAME. He hopes it will help advance the understanding of classic game development, encourage classic game license holders to allow MAME to distribute their old games for free, and attract more developers into supporting the project, which is now fully integrated with its sister project MESS (Multi Emulator Super System). MAME engineer Miodrag Milanovic says that license was put in place to deter "misuse of MAME in illegal ways," but it also kept museums that charged entry fees from using MAME in their exhibits or legal license owners from using MAME to rerelease old games. Instead it's been available under a modified BSD license that prohibits, among other things, commercial use of the code. MAME's source code has long been freely available, but it's never technically been open source. ![]() This is notable because MAME is seen to be the premier emulator for arcade games, and the volunteers who maintain it have done laudable work to preserve artifacts of the game industry in a playable state.
